No Place Like Home: Smart Tips for Aging in Place

2/03/26

I recently had the pleasure of sharing practical, confidence‑boosting aging‑in‑place strategies with the community at the Milltown Public Library. My goal is simple: to help people stay in the homes they love—safely, comfortably, and with greater independence.

From small adjustments to smart design choices, aging in place does not have to be complicated. With the right guidance, every home can support safer living and stronger daily routines.

Steady and Strong: Everyday Movement for Better Bone Health

6/19/26

We had a wonderful time visiting The Ponds Older Adult Community in Monroe for our interactive presentation, Steady and Strong: Everyday Movement for Better Bone Health. Rutgers' Occupational Therapy Doctoral students, Kayla DeRosa Hudson and Alyssa Richie, along with Karen Kowalski from A&AIP, discussed how movement, strength, balance, and bone health are related. Participants learned ways to prevent falls, ensure safe body mechanics, and set achievable goals for healthy aging and independence. The group also practiced simple exercises that people can add to their daily routines. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the event such a success!

Sleep Well for a Great Start Tomorrow: Simple Tips and Tricks for a Healthy Night Sleep

At the Bridgewater Senior Wellness Center, we presented on the importance of sleep and overall sleep health, emphasizing how quality rest supports physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. From an occupational therapy perspective, we highlighted how sleep is a foundational occupation that impacts daily functioning, routines, and participation in meaningful activities. We also discussed practical, OT-informed strategies to support healthy sleep habits. Throughout the presentation, we engaged with the audience by answering questions and clarifying key concepts to promote better understanding and real-life application.

You Matter Too: Building Resilience as a Caregiver

7/23/26

I Had the pleasure of providing a presentation entitled "You Matter Too: Building Resilience as a Caregiver" at the Warren Public Library in collaboration with Middle-Brook Regional Health Commission.  A very engaged group of individuals who shared their lived experiences so that we all could learn as well as develop skills and techniques to remember the importance of caregivers to maintain their own personal health and wellness!
